My CV

Education:

I went to the same school as Ed Sheeran! Thomas Mills High School and Sixth Form (1994-2001), then the University of Sussex for a very long time (2002-2009) to do my degree and PhD.

Qualifications:

A-Levels in English Language, Chemistry and Biology; BSc. (Hons) in Medicinal Chemistry and PhD (or D.Phil as they’re known at Sussex) in Chemical and Structural Biology.

Work History:

At school and uni I had loads of part-time jobs: babysitting, waitressing and cleaning the boys toilets at my high school :-/ My first job after my PhD was in New York City working as a Postdoctoral Scientist at Columbia University.

Me and my work

I’m a biophysicist and I work in a lab building nanomaterials from designer proteins.

My Typical Day

Designing proteins, making proteins and purifying proteins.

What I'd do with the money

I would like to go on the Lightyear Foundation two-week Science Roadshow in Ghana and help develop science classes in African schools.

Small and fun.

Who is your favourite singer or band?

At the moment, Django Django.

What is the most fun thing you've done?

Same as the scariest thing I’ve done…. Jumping out of a plane!

If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!

Success, peace and to live happily ever after!

What did you want to be after you left school?

At primary school I wanted to be a dinnerlady. At high school I wanted to be a journalist. At sixth form I wanted to be a scientist.

Were you ever in trouble in at school?

Only a few times! Mainly for being a chatterbox.

What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?

Travelling. Getting the chance to research new and exciting science in different places, whether overseas or in the UK.
