Yeah of course. It is not the easiest subject! But I think most people study science because they enjoy it and enjoy the challenge.

At University things started to get really hard but I still enjoyed it and worked hard. When find something fun then it makes it a lot easier and makes you want to learn more. Now doing a PhD it is still hard! but also still fun.

      Yup! And that’s not a bad thing….

Because science is unpretictable; sometimes this causes excitement because you discover something new… while other times you struggle because your results are weird and don’t make sense! Struggling is part of being a scientist… (and a part of life actually). I’d say I got to where I am today through struggling through the challenges, learning from them, and becoming a better and better scientist and person!

Yes, a lot. Science is hard, and often you’re doing it all by yourself (in PhD, not so much degree) which means there aren’t many people who can help solve the problem. Usually after you stick at it for a while you get there in the end.
Most of the time I enjoy it though – and that’s the reason I’m doing it now. If I didn’t enjoy it I wouldn’t be able to put the work in and I’m sure I’d be doing something different instead!

Yes – and sometimes I still do! The important thing to remember about becoming a scientist is that it’s not one huge step, it’s lots of baby steps with lots of learning along the way. It would be like starting secondary school and someone saying “Right, A-levels for you all tomorrow” – which would be super hard. Instead, you gradually build up your understanding & suddenly it’s not such a huge leap. Even now, I get stuck on some things but it’s OK to ask for help or to ask for more explanation – it shows that you’re really thinking about what you’re doing.
