The obvious answer is heroin, but I think nicotine – which is found in cigarettes – might be more addictive. And because cigarettes are easier to obtain there must be far more people addicted to this than hard drugs. My own addiction is caffeine… can’t get through the morning without a shot of diet coke :-/

Heroin. It’s often viewed as the “worst drug” because its users become really dependent on it, and it causes so much physical harm. Some other highly addictive drugs are alcohol, nicotine and cocaine. Claire’s right in that nicotine and alcohol may cause more damage because they affect more people (because they’re so easy to get hold of!)

The guys are right, heroin is pretty much the most addictive and most harmful drug out there.

Check out this graph of Harm vs Dependence:

Tobacco is as harmful as some hard drugs like Ecstasy, but is way more addictive. So why do so many people smoke when it is so bad for them?

I’d say there are five main drugs that are the most addicitive: nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, cocaine and heroin.

The Class A’s listed are the most harmful and very addictive and therefore illegal.

But you’ll notive that nicotine, caffeine and alcohol are perfectly legal, which means that people have access to them quite easily and may well stay addicted for their whole lives. Some are more harmful than others… and it entirely depends on how much you have as to the harm it can do.

Personally I’m like Claire and love my caffeine… Did you know that the caffeine from coffee plants is actually used as a poison to kill the insects… it doesn’t kill us because we’re much bigger (phew).. but it sure explains the bitter taste!
