Finding out new things that nobody knew before or has ever tried before. I think that is really exciting.

I also love being able to talk to other scientists about my work and different subjects and share our knowledge. I’ve been to conferences in Germany, France and Holland and been able to see lots of smart people. Being able to talk to you guys is really great too as in a few years you might be the next big thing leading the way in science!

I agree with Tom, finding out new things is great. I also like reading other people’s work and trying to understand it. That way I’m finding out new things, even if other people knew them already, so it’s similar.

My favourite thing about being a scientist is being able to share my research and talk about science to other people…. other scientists, other non-scientists, and other students, like you guys.

Communicating science is such an important part of being a scientist, you can hide away in a lab and find cool things out, but if you don’t share it with others, then what’s the point!? Whether chatting to other scientists, or writing about it in magazines, or chatting to you guys…. these have to be my favourite moments!

Getting to learn something new every day and understanding more about how the world works. It also means you get to do so many different things – today I’ve looked after some fish, written some slides, spoken to some people in Singapore and now I am talking to you guys about it all. Science is so many things that there’s no chance to be bored
