When you accidentally swallow air as well as the liquid, the air comes back to the surface as a burp. Fizzy drinks means more gas, means more burping!

      Here’s the science of burping…. 🙂

After drinking liquids, if we swallow air too this will cause us to burp to get rid of the air! In these cases, your burps are mainly oxygen and nitrogen.

If you drink fizzy drinks though… like Coke or 7-up… your burp is mainly carbon dioxide!

And the sound of the burp…is caused from vibrations against an area in your neck called a upper esophageal sphincter… the bigger the vibrations the louder the burp!

Some pretty cool info from Yalda there. I always burp loads after drinking Coke, can’t help it. Suppose I am just eating too much air.

Because you swallow air when you’re drinking & then your body tries to get rid of it by pushing it back up – so you burp. Burps from “the other end” are caused by your food fermenting (breaking down & generating gas) in your guts and it then has to escape through your bottom.
