I think the main reason why I like science is that it gives answers to so many questions. And it also lets you ask a lot more questions!

I get easily distracted and so am always interested by new things. And when you start to think about the world and most things you do in life, it all comes down to science. How does your computer work? What is in the air you’re breathing? Why does chocolate taste so good? Science can answer all this if you just ask the questions.

I have always liked to ask questions about how things work and being a scientist I get to ask lots of questions about nature and figure out the answers for my self. Usually the answers make you want to ask more questions, so the more time I have spent as a scientist the more questions I seem to have.

I enjoy solving problems, and trying to find out what the truth is in a complicated situation. That’s pretty much what science is for me. I also think science is important and useful and it feels good to spend your time doing something worthwhile. I like reading about science and learning new things.

Because the world (and the universe) is weird and wonderful and full of mysteries… and science can help us understand at least some of it.

      Hi Maddie,

There’s not really one answer but here are a few reasons:
      a) it underlies everything around us and that’s interesting in itself
      b) understanding scientific concepts helps us in our everyday life – e.g. being able to generate electric ity gives us power at the touch of a button; understanding how the body works helps us to fix it when it goes wrong
      c) sometimes it’s really weird and surprising – let’s face it, who could have come up with a duck-billed platypus?
      d) it pays well

What do you particularly like or dislike about science?
