Peter Venkman out of Ghostbusters. Him or Marjorie Courtenay who first discovered a fish called a coelocanth – a really, really ancient fish that lives in the super deep ocean.

My scientific heroes are people like Max Perutz and Dorothy Hodgkin. Perutz was one of the first people to see what proteins look like with hemoglobin, and Hodgkin worked out the structure of insulin.

There are so many inspirational living scientists too. People like Rosie Redfield, who looks at how bacteria can take up DNA. The scientists I work with inspire me every day to ask questions and do cool science.

One of my favourites is Linus Pauling. He is the only person to win the Nobel Prize for both Chemistry and Peace. A pretty awesome achievement.

I recently saw a scientist called Ada Yonath give a talk at a conference. She won a Nobel prize in 2009 for crystallising the ribosome – a big structure within cells where proteins are made. Crystals are difficult to make, especially for something so relatively large. Her talk was inspirational. There are lots of inspirational scientists – but at the moment she’s my favourite.

….you didn’t mention real life or not so I’m gonna go with Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown from ‘Back to the Future’. Nothing beats the invention of time travel!
